Sound of China: 24 Solar Terms

On 29 May 2025, the Jūras vārti Theatre House in Ventspils hosted the concert Sound of China: 24 Solar Terms, an evening built around the traditional Chinese calendar of 24 Solar Terms — part of UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage — tracing the turn of the seasons through music, from spring’s clarity to winter’s stillness.

The programme paired seasonal compositions with classic Chinese folk melodies, performed on traditional instruments including the konghou, pipa, erhu, dizi, suona and Chinese drums, in solos, duets and ensemble pieces.
