First YOUTH Salon — “Communication and Table Etiquette in China and Latvia”

On 7 November 2025, L.C.F.A. held its first YOUTH Salon, on the theme “Communication and Table Etiquette in China and Latvia”. Guests from both Chinese and Latvian backgrounds made for open discussion and a few surprises about how the two cultures approach everyday manners.
President Dr. Ņina Linde opened the evening, stressing the importance of cultural understanding for young people. An ice-breaking game, Cultural Bingo, was followed by the main presentation on communication and table etiquette — how respect is expressed, table manners, and what politeness means across cultures — which opened into a wider discussion, with guests sharing their own stories and questions.
A Kahoot quiz followed, with small prizes for the best listeners. Mr. Feng then introduced participants to Chinese tea culture with a guided tea-tasting session, and closed with an unannounced violin solo.
Feedback afterwards was strongly positive: participants said they had gained new insight into the similarities and differences between Latvian and Chinese culture, and suggested future topics including history, modern youth lifestyles, bilateral relations and innovation.
